History of Our School

From the Rowan County Farm Life School to China Grove Middle School, we have served the citizens of Rowan County with great pride.  Established in 1914, as a farm life school serving the agricultural needs of Rowan County, our school has developed from the largest rural high school in North Carolina in 1921 to presently one of the strongest academic middle schools in the Rowan-Salisbury School System.  The students, parents, faculty, staff and community are proud of our school’s accomplishments.  China Grove Middle School has a historic Rowan County granite design with contemporary renovations that make us a truly unique middle school.  The historic buildings on our campus, built by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s WPA program, house our sixth, seventh, and eighth grade core classes.  All classrooms include computer stations that are connected to the Internet.  We have 34 classrooms equipped with Promethean ActivBoards.  In November, 2014 each student received an iPad to use both at school and at home for educational purposes.  CGMS strives to provide a variety of programs to meet the educational needs of all students.

China Grove Middle continues to be a leader in Rowan-Salisbury Schools.  All students in RSS were charged to complete the Summer Reading Challenge.  157 students boldly completed the challenge representing 1/3 of our student body.  CGMS clearly out paced any other school in RSS.  Students who completed the challenge were provided with a T-shirt to celebrate their accomplishment.
