Saturday Message

Each Saturday, China Grove Middle School will send out a message to parents, students, and other stakeholders to provide timely and relevant information.  Below is the Saturday Message for September 16, 2017:

Good Morning China Grove MS Families,

RED TIME, which was formerly known as REACH, will begin the week of September 25th.  As you may know, when RED TIME starts, students will participate in two enrichment opportunities during the regular school day.  This Tuesday, students will begin the registration process for RED TIME by selecting four choices from our robust list of clubs and activities.  Please see attached.  We will try to place students in their preferred enrichment, but please choose carefully as we cannot guarantee anyone’s first or second choice.

Wednesday is the last day to order fall pictures.  You may send completed order forms with payment to the main office or visit to place the order online using picture code is 104806.

Last week, students received letters concerning the online registration of new and returning students.  In the past, we sent home paper forms to confirm basic demographic and contact information; this year, parents are asked to confirm your student’s enrollment using the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  This process is REQUIRED for EVERY student.   Parents who cannot access their Parent Portal account are asked to check with their student for the whereabouts of the letter sent home.  If the letter cannot be located, please send a written request for this information to your child’s first block teacher.  We will process these requests as soon as possible.

The PTA Attractions Coupon Book fundraiser ended this past week.  Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to the students who are eligible for the incentive program.  Orders have been filled, so families should look for the coupon books to come home Monday.  As a reminder, all sample books, which are of a $20 value, are to be returned.

The PTA’s Spirit Wear sale has been extended through September 18th.  To place an order please visit Dale’s Sporting Goods website, and use sales code:VQBD9.

This Wednesday, the Papa John’s on Highway 29 will donate 10% of their total sales to the CGMS PTA.  This is an all-day event.  Please just mention CGMS to participate.  Thank you.

There will be a Washington, DC interest meeting for parents of 8th grade students Tuesday, September 19th at 6:00 PM in the Media Center.  Itinerary, costs, fundraising opportunities, and behavior expectations will be discussed.   While not required, we strongly encourage all parents to attend.   If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Mills at

North Carolina Law requires all 7th grade students to receive a booster dose of TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines. Parents/Guardians are responsible for providing a copy of their child’s immunization record to the school to show proof of vaccination.  7th grade students who fail to provide proof of vaccination by September 26th will not be allowed to attend school until the requirement is met If your child hasn’t received these booster vaccines, contact your health care provider or the Rowan County Health Department for an appointment at (704) 216-8786. Please contact Wendy Marchinko, School Nurse, at (704) 213-3820 with any questions.

This is a reminder that ALL students, including our rising 6th graders are responsible for completing a summer reading project.  The summer math projects were due for all students on Friday.  Summer projects will count as a formal grade in the first quarter.  The assignments are available here.  Summer reading projects will be due September 29th.

Thank you, and have a great weekend.

China Grove Middle continues to be a leader in Rowan-Salisbury Schools.  All students in RSS were charged to complete the Summer Reading Challenge.  157 students boldly completed the challenge representing 1/3 of our student body.  CGMS clearly out paced any other school in RSS.  Students who completed the challenge were provided with a T-shirt to celebrate their accomplishment.
